Key Benefits
- Giant Fruit Size – The Hongbao variety is selected for producing impressively large watermelons, with mature fruits typically weighing 8–15kg or more under good growing conditions – delivering exceptional value per fruit and making a dramatic impression at market stalls, farm stands, and family gatherings.
- Low Seed Count – More Flesh to Enjoy – One of the most valued characteristics of the Hongbao variety is its notably low seed count compared to traditional watermelon varieties – meaning more of every slice is pure, sweet, red flesh rather than seeds, delivering a superior eating experience that consumers and chefs prefer.
- Vibrant Red Flesh & Exceptional Sweetness – The deep, vibrant red flesh of Hongbao watermelons is visually striking and delivers an exceptionally sweet, refreshing flavor with high sugar content (Brix) – making it one of the most sought-after watermelon varieties for fresh consumption, fruit platters, and premium market sales.
- All-Season Versatility – Suitable for spring, summer, and autumn planting in warm climates, giving growers the flexibility to plan multiple crops per year and extend their watermelon production season – maximizing land utilization and income potential for commercial farmers.
- Original Variety Seeds – High Germination Rate – Sourced from original variety seed stock with high germination rates and true-to-type plant characteristics, ensuring consistent fruit quality, size, and flavor across your entire crop – giving farmers and gardeners the confidence that their investment in seeds will deliver the expected results.
- Wholesale & Dropshipping Friendly – Available in packs of approximately 50 seeds with wholesale pricing and support for one-piece dropshipping across all platforms – making these seeds ideal for seed retailers, online sellers, and agricultural supply businesses looking for a reliable, popular watermelon variety to offer their customers.
How to Plant
Start seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost date, or direct sow outdoors when soil temperature reaches 21°C or above. Sow seeds 2–3cm deep in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0. Space plants 1.5–2m apart in rows 2–3m apart to allow for the large vines. Watermelons require full sun (8+ hours per day) and warm temperatures for best fruit development. Water deeply and consistently, especially during fruit set and development – avoid wetting the foliage to reduce disease risk. Apply a balanced fertilizer at planting, then switch to a low-nitrogen, high-potassium fertilizer once vines begin to run to promote fruit development and sweetness. Pollination is required for fruit set – ensure adequate bee activity or hand-pollinate by transferring pollen from male to female flowers. Harvest when the tendril nearest the fruit has dried, the fruit sounds hollow when tapped, and the ground spot has turned from white to yellow. Store harvested watermelons in a cool location and consume within 2–3 weeks for best flavor.
