Non-GMO, suitable for spring and fall planting, and available in 50g and 100g packs for home gardeners and small-scale farmers.
Key Benefits
- Distinctive Black Skin & Green Inner Core – The signature black outer skin and bright green inner core of this heirloom variety are not just visually striking – they indicate an exceptionally high concentration of anthocyanins (from the black skin) and chlorophyll and isoflavones (from the green core) – making green-core black soybeans one of the most nutritionally dense bean varieties available and a prized ingredient in traditional Chinese health food preparations.
- Rich in Anthocyanins & Plant Nutrients – The deep black skin is packed with anthocyanins – powerful natural antioxidants that give the beans their distinctive color and are associated with cardiovascular health support, anti-inflammatory properties, and cellular protection – while the green core provides additional isoflavones, chlorophyll, and plant proteins that make these beans a genuine nutritional superfood.
- Non-GMO Heirloom Variety – A traditional, non-GMO heirloom black soybean variety preserved through generations of cultivation – delivering the authentic flavor, nutritional profile, and seed-saving potential that heirloom variety enthusiasts, organic gardeners, and health-conscious consumers value over modern hybrid or GMO alternatives.
- High Yield & Vigorous Growth – Large, plump seeds with high germination rates and vigorous plant establishment, producing a productive crop of large, well-filled pods under good growing conditions – delivering an abundant harvest of premium black soybeans for fresh eating (edamame stage), cooking, sprouting, and traditional Chinese health food preparations.
- Spring & Fall Planting Flexibility – Suitable for both spring and autumn planting in a wide range of climates, giving gardeners and farmers the flexibility to grow two crops per year in suitable regions – extending the fresh black soybean season and maximizing garden productivity throughout the growing year.
- Versatile Culinary & Health Applications – Green-core black soybeans are used in a wide range of traditional Chinese culinary and health applications including cooking as a nutritious side dish, making black soybean milk (hei dou jiang), sprouting for nutritious bean sprouts, soaking in vinegar for traditional health preparations (cu pao hei dou), and using in traditional Chinese medicine dietary therapy.
How to Plant
Select a sunny location with well-drained, fertile soil and a pH of 6.0–7.0. Prepare the seedbed by deep tillage and incorporate phosphorus and potassium base fertilizer before planting. Inoculate seeds with soybean rhizobium inoculant before planting to ensure effective nitrogen fixation, especially in fields where soybeans have not been grown previously. Plant in spring when soil temperature reaches 15°C or above, or in late summer for autumn harvest. Sow seeds at a depth of 3–5cm and spacing of 10–15cm within rows, with 40–60cm between rows. Water gently after planting and maintain consistent soil moisture during germination (7–10 days). Apply a top-dressing of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer at the flowering stage to support pod development. Monitor for aphids, bean pod borers, and fungal diseases and apply appropriate crop protection as needed. For fresh edamame: harvest when pods are fully filled and bright green (approximately 80–90 days). For dry black soybeans: harvest when pods are fully mature and dry (approximately 110–130 days). Store harvested black soybeans in a cool, dry, airtight container away from moisture, pests, and direct sunlight. Store unused seeds in a cool, dry location to preserve germination viability for the next season.
